Letters, financial papers, legal papers, and other manuscript documents primarily pertaining to people and events in New Paltz. Letters include W.H.D. Blake to his son Alfred concerning winter weather and roads in New Paltz, 1920; Edgard Morrison to Alfred Blake offering a teaching position, 1899; Joshua E. Crane about his teaching career, 1884, and a letter of reference for Crane, 1882; Ann E. Elting from her father Cornelius Elting concerning her studies, attention to religious duties, and marriages in Port Jervis, 1837, and from C.E. Crispell about social life in Hurley including a "whortlebuny pick-nick," 1841; courting letters to Gertrude Crookston from Willard F. Castle, 1877; and Josiah DuBois on his financial situation in old age, 1855. Financial papers include receipts, 1796-1923, account of taxes collected in Town of Shawangunk by Tobias DuBois, 1872, and inventory from the estate of Moses LeFevre, 1837. Legal papers include will of Tobias Elting of Syracuse, 1854; quit-claim of Josia [sic] Eltinge, 1752; deeds and bonds, 1804-1921; and a copy of a petition from Ulster County residents concerning trafficking with slaves, 1791. Other items include manuscript poems by C.D. Davis on his Rosendale childhood, ca. 1870; religious tracts, ca. 1790 and 1820; essay by Cornelius B. Webb on the village of New Paltz, 1847; military certificates, 1837-1844; and copybook of Charity Millard, ca. 1830.
